Rough Cut of our Music Video

Feedback to our Rough Cut

On Thursday we showed the (Half-finished) rough cut for our video. Owing to entensive attention to detail, we had not finished fully editing and were yet to film one final piece of footage that was crucial to our video. That has now been filmed and we now can solely focus on the editing.

We were very pleased with the initial reaction from our peers as what we had put together managed to get a lot of laughs, which is what we had intended. This immediately showed that we had successfully created our intended mood.

Our peers all said that our use of locations were effective and went well with the song. In addition, some felt that we managed to reflect the genre well through our heavy use of countryside locations, with more feeling that the use of pubs in the narrative was also effective.

Despite limited footage our peers were able to work out the narrative of a Suffolk farmer going about his business, and hitting people if they start to antagonise him. This means that we successfully made the narrative clear, an important feature of our video. Some were unsure as to why the main character was wearing an Ipswich Town FC wooly hat, but this is down to the fact we had to miss out parts in the editing due to having not filmed that (yet).

It was commented that our array of camera shots/angles worked well in the main. The over-the-shoulder shot of me went down well, as did the various close-ups and many angles we used. All of the people that we asked said that they would recommend our video, giving us a clear indication that we are very much going in the right direction.

What I need to change due to audience feedback on the Rough Cut

Now that I have received feedback from my target audience, I now know that I will need to add more camera movement as this will be more conventional. I will also need to add more rhythmic editing to the video as this will create the feeling of pace to the video. I will need to add more narrative into the video so that it makes sense to my audience. I will also include more humour in my video as this seems to appeal to the audience.

Evaluation of shots and lighting

1.
I liked this LS of the performers as it establishes the setting they are in and gives a good view of their posture and what they are wearing. This has the effect of contributing to the star image of the artists as the shot type draws attention to their costumes.
