Acquiring the filming equipment
This is how I managed to get the high quality equipment I needed to film.
Props list
Whilst filming our music video, we used props to keep with the conventions of folk music and our own artist. Here is a list of the props we used:
Adnams towel/ flannel - We used this prop as adnams beer links with our song Suffolk Punch. It was used in the music video when a character throws the towel at the farmer in Paul's sports club.
Broadside beer - We used this beer bottle in our pub scenes with close ups as it links to our band name The Broadside Boys. This was also used in images at the beach which will go onto our digipak.
Other beer glasses - Very useful when filming short snappy shots, often found in the narrative part of the video.
Guitar - Used in the performance section of our music video to set a stereotype of a folk artist. Also used in images at the beach with the Broadside beer to go onto our digipak.
Baseball bat - We used a baseball bat in the performance section of our music video when the two artists are walking away from the camera, shown at the lyric "Time for bats and bottles has come". The baseball bat is also used in a digipak image with the guitar and the Broadside beer.
Bike - We used a bike in our music video for the section when the farmer gets on his bike in the lyrics. There also is an image of the farmer on the bike which will be featuring in the digipak.
How our Star Image is going to be constructed
A variety of materials were used to construct our star image like costume, setting and motifs in our music video. These materials were based on that of other artists of our chosen genre of folk. We did this to be conventional.
When constructing the appearance of our artists, we based them on the costumes of other folk artists. When constructing the lead singer's costume we decided to base it on that of one of the lead singers of the modern folk band, The Lumineers as shown in picture 1. This was done because the singer in that band is young and wears modern, stylish clothing. This would appeal to our audience as they said in the questionnaire that our overall persona should be a mixture of both modern and traditional folk. The costume of the guitarist in the music video, as you can see in picture 2, is based on a mixture of the star image of the modern folk band Mumford and Sons and the more traditional band folk band The Broadside Boys, who's name we used as the name of our band. We adapted these star images to our guitarist by giving him the shirt and tie often worn by Mumford and Sons to look smart, and gave him the denim jacket and chino trousers, adapted from the guitarist of The Broadside Boys, to give him that scruffier, more traditional look that is achieved by The Broadside Boys. This was done because we wanted a mixture of both modern and traditional conventions of the folk genre in our star image as suggested by the comments we received from our questionnaire.

Setting was also important to our star image as it had to be associated with the conventions of the folk genre. When choosing locations to shoot they had to match the rustic feel that was emulated in our artists. To do this we will shoot in rural locations like fields and a barn as shown by picture 3a. We got this idea from watching Mumford and Sons videos like Little Lion Man and Winter Winds as these locations are used in these videos as shown in picture 3b. This will be done to add to the conventional, traditional folk feel that was requested by our target audience.
3a.

We also shot on location at the beach in Southwold, Suffolk, picture 4, because the Adnams: Broadside Beer is brewed there and the original Broadside Boys have been heavily influenced by this and have lived in the Southwold area most of their lives. This is why they named themselves The Broadside Boys. Considering that we are aiming to emulate most aspects of their star image, it seems like a good idea to shoot somewhere that has influenced the band so heavily.
4.

The Adnams: Broadside theme will be carried through in the use of props to contribute to the star image of the artists. This will been done by including the Broadside beer that relates to the name of the artists and the Adnams bar towel as shown in picture 5. These props will act as motifs in the music video as they will contribute to the star image of the artists by referencing to the beer that they are named after.
5.

Other props will be used to contribute to the star image of the artists like the guitar, picture 6. This will be included in our video frequently as it acts as a symbol for the genuine nature of the artists as there will be no gimmicks and it will be just about the music. This technique is used a lot in Mumford and Sons videos picture 7. This adds to the pure convention that often accompanies folk music.

Questionnaire and Write up of Feedback from Audience
Age: Gender: Male / Female
1) Do you believe having a mixture of narrative and performance in our video would suit the genre of music we have chosen?
2) Would you change any of the locations we have selected, if so, which would you change and why?
3) What type of video would you expect to see from this style of music? E.g. A serious or maybe quite a comical video.
4) Did you understand everything we spoke about and mentioned in our treatment?
5) What improvements would you possible make to our plans for our video?
6) What type of Star Image would you expect for a music video of our genre?
7) Any other comments?
Write-up of Feedback
Out of the 11 people we surveyed, every single person believed that having a mixture of both performance and narrative aspects in our video suited our chosen genre. Using this feedback, our group decided incorporate aspects of both performance and narrative into our video. Eight out of the eleven believed we had picked ideal locations, although some did express concerns at the inclusion of Portman Road The football stadium. With this support from the feedback we have decided to press on with our chosen locations. Seven people expect a more comical video, with one expecting a mixture of comedy and seriousness whilst the other three expected a more serious video. We decided to attempt to include humour in our music video as this is what the majority wanted but we will consider making some aspects more serious. Our treatment went very well, with only one person failing to understand the treatment. This shows that we did a good job on a very important piece of the coursework. Four people cited improvements to our plans, with these people asking for more detail and inspiration behind the video and we have taken these requests into consideration. Every single person agreed with us that we should construct a humble, almost scruffy, star image that is conventional in Folk music, which is our chosen genre.
Market Research
Our research leads us to think that a typical consumer of this type of music video would obviously have folk music as their favoured genre. Despite this, it is still possible that our video may appeal to other fans as folk music's popularity is starting to rise.
Primary research suggests that the age of folk music fans do tend to be between sixteen and twenty-one years of age (Owing to the fact that a lot of this age group tend to like Mumford and Sons). However, as secondary research (Social networking and other means) suggest frequently, it is possible and likely that there are older fans of the genre, mainly found through posts on social networking sites.
It is non-gender specific as there is an even split between boy/girl fans of the genre, whilst the fans of this genre don’t usually have a distinct style or fashion that they conform to. It is likely that fans of the folk genre would expect a wide variety of performance and narrative based video, as this is what we have seen in the videos we have studied as well as the feedback from the people we surveyed.
There would a lot of outdoor (Often rural) locations featuring heavily, as we have also seen this play a massive part in these types of music videos, with the costume of the character expected to be slightly scruffy, as this is the star image often conveyed by these bands in their music videos.
